  • Our EYFS Parent Workshops

Workshop takes place on a Thursday morning 9:00 – 9:30. Workshop is open for children who are in nursery and reception.Weekly, we plan and resource enjoyable activities suitable for parents/carers to do with their children. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and it is a chance to meet other parents/carers and have a chat as well as spending some quality time with your child. The activities vary week to week. Look out for the poster on your child’s classroom door to see what’s coming up.

    We also do Home Learning.

Home Learning is a program that the school runs for nursery children.  It is an amazing opportunity for your child to experience learning in their own home. Mrs Mason and Miss Beckett will bring a character bag full of educational activities for parents/carers, grandparents or siblings to enjoy with the child. The activities help with learning colours, numbers, shapes and sizes. The programme runs for 6 weeks. Staff will arrange a time and day to come to your home.  The visit usually lasts for around half an hour and then the bag is left with you to continue doing the activities for the week. At the end of the 6 week block, you and your child will be invited to a special assembly which takes place on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm.  Here your child will be presented with a certificate and a medal.

  • Talk for Maths Mastery in the Foundation Stage

Following on from the Talk for Reading Project we have now taken part in the Talk for Maths Mastery Project with other SSELP schools. Working with Di Chilvers, we have contributed to the Talk for Maths Mastery Exemplification and also took part in the Conference on June 16th presenting in workshops about learning stories, floor books and moving continuous provision in to Y1. We also produced a display about our floor books.

We have summarised our work in a video and also in an eBook which goes into more detail about the work that we have done over the last couple of years. Please contact us at school if you would like any further information.

  • We have achieved and earned Millie’s Mark. It is so hard to achieve. As a school, you have to demonstrate that you are very thorough with health and safety in the Early Years. We are delighted we have been recognised for all the hard work we have put in.

Having the Millie’s Mark award demonstrates our commitment to going above and beyond the minimum requirements for keeping children safe. It shows that all staff working directly with children not only hold a paediatric first aid certificate but that they are also competent in how to apply this in practice.

Achieving Millie’s Mark shows that we have the correct procedures and documentation in place and gives our parents that greater reassurance.

  • Sheffield Charter for Quality in the Early Years

Our Foundation Stage was awarded the Sheffield Charter for Quality in the Early Years from Spring 2016 and this was renewed in 2017, 2018 and now 2019. It is valid until 2020.

Everyone has continued to work really hard to maintain the standards required to be awarded the Charter and we’re really proud of our achievement.

Our areas of excellence which were recognised were

    • Helicopter Stories that aid speaking and listening
    • Use of Floor Books to follow children’s interests

You can find out more about these through the following links to this website and to the class blogs…

We’ve continued to revise and adapt our practice in these areas as the year has gone on and are happy to talk to you about what we’ve been doing if you’ve like to come and have a look round.

  • ‘Helicopter Stories’ is an ongoing piece of work which has added to the Talk for Reading work from previous years.

We’ve continued to revise and adapt our practice in these areas as the year has gone on and are happy to talk to you about what we’ve been doing if you’ve like to come and have a look round. Our Early Years Team have supported other local schools with this initiative.
